In the fiction of Jeff Vandermeer, one encounters a reconceptualization of the ‘critical zone’, through mushrooms and other critters. In this symbiotic, or gaia-graphic, context to borrow from Arénes et al. (2018), this paper asks how speculation through generative and experimental inscriptive practices might contribute to our understanding of machinic habitation.
